Wednesday, June 20:
What is it?
Its a video that I couldnt upload into youtube :(
Layal,
'3areeba the link didnt work .. it worked with me .. will try to do it again ..
I think the file type is not supported by Youtube .. so I will have to find a way to convert it to mp4
anyway, Layal check the link again because its working with me
Thursday, June 21:
So if I paste the link I should be able to watch the video?
We'll see...
I couldn't watch all of it...the films stopped playing 4 minutes and 39 seconds in and wouldn't start any more.
But it was very poignant. Going through the storm with y'all on the net, I came to feel almost as if Muscat was mine, too, and I had lost something even though I've never been there.
How are people feeling, what is the mood now? Are people starting to feel as though things are settling back in to normal? Is repair work on roads and bridges and cleanup on the cars and things proceeding at a reasonable pace?
Friday, June 22:
Who produced the video, by the way? There is an icon or something in the top corner...is it a national production? Or Omani TV?
People are back to normal I guess, but there are few who lost someone I am sure the storm will never be forgotton for them. Personally, I still feel unsettled until I move back to my house .. the roads are getting cleaner but I guess it will take time till it get back to how clean it was (muscat was one of the cleanest cities of the world)
The video was produced by amature I think .. he calls himself "bahlawi Omani" .. I liked his choice of music and pictures .. the icon there however is of Oman TV.
Saturday, June 23:
When do you think you will get to move back to your house?
Well my husband is hoping this week .. but I doubt it .. lets say its early next week .. they finished the tiles in two rooms, now they are painting my room BLUE :) .. and slowly they are moving to other rooms ..
Climate change is awful. Hope You had no casualties to mourn. Is it true that You have a disposition to melancholy music? It seems to me that You are a very tender woman. That's beautiful. Ciau Ciau

Well, I can see it's purple! And I guess it's about Muscat because of the picture...
Wednesday, June 13:
I wonder if some good writing will come out of the storm...
Thursday, June 14:
What is the white space-ship looking thing on top of the hill?
Jeff, Its about Oman and the storm, so you were not wrong :) the white "space ship" is a francinsense burner that is places in a park in Muscat .. if you go up there, you can see an nice overview of Muscat
Friday, June 15:
And what about your writing? Have you thought of trying anything since Gonu?
I miss the days when you used to send me to read your stuff... :(
for some reason the writer's block is still there .. I am thinking maybe I shouldnt write anymore :(
Saturday, June 16:
Nooooooooooo! Don't think that way...
The way to cure writer's block is just to write. Write anything. Write garbage. But just write every day and keep the writer's juices flowing.
Then one day, while you are writing or maybe when you sit down to write, it will come to you what you really should be writing.
But don't give up!
Sunday, June 17:
Just my Sunday drive by...
Monday, June 18:
And how do people come to know the work of Omani poets? Do they sell books and people buy them? Are they published in magazines or newspapers?
Or is there some kind of public forum where they read them?
I got this one in another forum, but some poets write in magazines or newspapers. Actually, the poem is a modern one .. not that the kind I usually like .. but I guess being down because of the cyclone I was touched by the words.
Tuesday, June 19:
Yes, it's interesting how there are not absolute rules for these things. Maybe you hate a certain style of writing, but then you come on one example that really moves you or touches you...
The proof of the pudding is in the eating, we say.
Friday, June 8:
It's terrible seeing all the cars destroyed and all the other pictures of devastation. I hope the waters have receded now and the real clean up can begin.
It's great to see Sama around! :)
Jeff, yah everyone is helping in cleaning up .. its really intresting to see how everyone wants to contribute .. so spirit lifting :)
Saturday, June 9:
Spirit lifting indeed! I've experienced that sort of thing, where everyone feels united by a disaster. It's a beautiful thing.
Do you think His Majesty will address the nation or has he already done so?
Sunday, June 10:
How are things at your work? Are they up and running yet or are they thinking about it?
Jeff, His Majesty sent an announcment through the cabin of ministers that he is following the process of bringing life to muscat .. and he sent his condoloence to those who lost thier lives during the storm.
Jeff,
I didnt go to work I took few days off because I need to clean my house .. people went to work but few people turned up .. there is no water so it would make working diffcult.
Monday, June 11:
Yeah, I can see the water thing is maybe the number one problem. It's funny to think that rain and flooding can cause a water shortage in the end, isn't it? But it makes sense.
The pipes get broken or filled with dirty or salt water and the wells get messed up. I have heard some desperate stories about water.
And I remember the terrible water problems in Florida after Hurricane Charley.
I'm so sorry about your house. Is it just miserable? Have you lost a lot there?
Tuesday, June 5:
Of course you never wronged me!
Please take care and get back from the water.
God bless and protect you and yours.
Wednesday, June 6:
Beautiful pics. What a lovely place! I hope the flooding has passed by you and yours and left all your homes intact.
How soon will you hear from your villages to see if your relatives inland are okay? I suppose they may well be getting a lot of rain and maybe some flooding too...
Thursday, June 7:
I've been praying for you and I hope everyone has come through all right. I am seeing of course that the international press is finally taking some notice...sadly because of casualties now discovered.
God bless.
I was working in Sultanate of Oman for eight years (1982-'90) and retired. Now I am a Setuagenarien spending my retired life with my family and grand children in India. I love Oman and the people of Oman. When I heard that Cyclone "Gomu" hit Muscat and northern part of Oman, I was too concerned and started searching for more news in the internet. While browsing I stepped into your beautiful Blog by chance. Thank you posting the news and uploading photos. I pray Almighty God to bless you all and the Country to regain normalcy soon without any major damages. With very Best wishes,
Jeff, Really thanks for your support .. you have been a real friend there in sabla making us realise what could really happen .. god bless you.
Bala, muscat is now is in disaster .. but god is with us .. we are going to rebuild it inshallah. Thanks for your wishes.
Well, it was just "big brother" stuff...I've been through it before and watched as friends went through it before and seen what happens as you go along, step-by-step.
Next time there's a hurricane in the US, you guys will be saying, "Oh, they better watch out for this; or they shouldn't do that," because you're experienced Storm Dwellers now!
But it will probably be five hundred years before another cyclone hits Muscat.

As you all know, “Gonu” is heading towards Oman in the coming few hours. As much we all try to prepare, we all depend on Allah’s will. May Allah protect Oman.
Anyway, just wanted to say that I don’t know how would this hurricane would leave us .. and I don’t know if I will be able to come to this blog again. Anyway, I just wanted to apologies if I ever wronged any of you. Take care till the hurricane is over, Inshallah.
